WHATS GOING ON?

(September 19th, 2007) -- Ok, I know some of you have probably been disappointed in the amount of new content to the site in the last year or so, or lack there of. So I am here to answer some questions.
For the 07 racing season, I have been trying some different stuff in the world of racing, other than driving. At the beginning of the year I missed the first few races I had planned because of school sports, lack of preparation and no real desire to race against only a handful of karts. By June I had made it to the track.
The first race I competed in was the Tulsa Kart Club event on June 3rd. I ran a TaG Sr. set-up for the first time and I finished 3rd on track in the combined TaG Jr.-Sr. classes, before I removed myself from the standings as to not interfere with the club regulars’ points. I used this race as a test for the upcoming KART Sprint National Championships.
For the 07 KART Sprint National Championships I was entered in the TaG Sr. and Unlimited classes. I was doing ok but defiantly not up to par. In TaG Sr. I did not finish with a bent axle while passing for 3rd. The unlimited class was full of fake drama caused by myself and other speed junkies feeling as if we are never wrong. To make a LONG story short I was black flagged by a poor race director’s bad call. I was not happy with the ruling, as per the rulebook nothing was done wrong by the other driver or myself, so I didn’t heal to the black flag resulting in a DQ for me.
Well those are the only two times I was racing the year, but that doesn’t mean I have been away from the track.
In April I went with my buddy James Cypert to Waco, Texas for the KART Southern Sprint Series round #2. James had bought a Margay/Leopard for his first year in TaG Sr. I went with them to help with any problem that might occur with their new TaG package or should I say to try and prevent those problems. They had a fairly good weekend with James driving smart to take a 2nd in only his second Sr. start.
After spending the weekend with the Cyperts I got the itch to do more “tuning” weekends. A deal was made between myself and Walters Motorsports so that I would accompany them to the Snap-On Stars of Karting East events and the Rock Island Grand Prix along with any other events they felt that I need to be at. Well, what can I say about that? IT WAS AWSOME! I think I had more fun with those guys in one weekend that I had almost all last year. I wasn’t getting to drive, but tuning and cheering both drivers, Shane and Evan, on was something that I haven’t ever had the opportunity to do. Needless to say we had our ups and downs throughout the year but as a team atmosphere I REALLY enjoyed it.
One of the best drives I saw this year, which you will never hear about, was Shane’s drive in the Saturday Final at NCMP. Both drivers started in the top 10 after a great pre-final and were advancing towards the front. After being knocked off track in second hairpin and falling all the way back to 32nd place there was a red flag incident on another part of the track. When a red flag is issued, the scoring is taken back to the last completed lap, which Shane and Evan both were in the top 10. WOW! Shane has 3 bent steering parts and hung on to an 8th place! In the STARS of Karting series none the less! It was simply amazing to me when I found that out later.
I also went to Shawano, Wisconsin and the RIGP with WMS. Both weekends weren’t as good as the New Castle one but, to me they were a blast. And I will say this, if you haven’t been to “THE Rock” your missing out. I will personally never race there but the atmosphere of the weekend is like no other. Go see it. Even just to be a spectator.
Well folks that’s pretty much what has happened this year for WMR. I’m trying to find a team to let me get back in the seat for the Robo-Pong 200 at NCMP. Will it happen? Stay tuned to find out.
