KART S. S. #6 Denton, Texas September 9th-10th

By: White Motorsports Racing

(September 14th, 2006) -- We left Grove at about 3:45 a.m. Saturday morning. With little to no traffic all the way to Denton we were at the track by 9:30.

The first couple pratice sessions were the usual of getting aquainted with driving and the track again. I could defintally feel that a major change was needed. I spent the next pratice making wholesale changs to both ends of the kart, to my suprise they worked. After some more minor tweaking throughout the day we were off the track by 4 p.m. The NTK club was holding their anual "trophy dash" that night so pratice was closed to KART competiors unless you were in the club race. I didn't mind as I had enough pratice for one day.

We then went to the hotel to get in the hot tub and watch the end of the OU/Washington collage football game. Then after a shower we got some Whataburger and headed beck to the track to watch the club race. Man, I love Whataburger and Texas is the only place I get to eat it.  Good stuff for sure.

Our new friend Steve Clark was having trouble getting his BM Jaguar to start, so we spent the night trying to help him figure out his problem. He would borrow parts off of my kart, working through the process of elemination, to figure out the problem. As it turns out a screw in the ignition was loose so it would get initional spark but would then die off. The kart would start but had problems continuly running. We probally spent 3 to 3 1/2 hours helping steven but it would all pay devendons.

Sunday

We arrived at the track around 7:45 after a gread breakfast back at the hotel.

During all three pratice sessions we could not get the rear of the kart to grip the track enough. We figured it was in part to our rear tires which had 4 days of hard driving on them. Our friend Steven just plain offered us the use of his rear tires. I could hardly believe it. Thank goodness we would have been in a world of hurt if not. THANK YOU STEVEN!

In Qualfiying, I was able to catch the kart in front of me which really cost me some time. I was over 6 tenths of a second behind Erin Sims. I have NEVER been that far behind the person in front of me in qualifying. The chassis was a little off but still that was very embarrasing.

In the Pre-final, well im gald it was just that. a PRE race. On the start I got a little sideways and bumped from behind. At the end of L1 I was sitting in 4th...of 4. Well Zach tippett was leaking water ALL over the track, due to a radidator hose working itself loose and I passed Irene Rose on L3 to take over the 2nd spot. I finished the race right where I started, Erin was way out front, myself in second, and Irene right on my butt.

We made some slight changes but plenty of them. In the final it was just too much. The kart went from being to soft in the pre final to way to stiff in the final, but yet I was still flying. I was turning some of my best laps of the weekend, and yet Erin was still pulling away. Have you ever felt helpless? Well, for the first time in my career I felt that way. I was on a rail, driving my butt off and never letting up one inch the entire race and yet every time we would come onto the front straight I could see Erins leapord pull my engine. If she would gain 10 feet I would recover 7 of that going through turns 1 - 6 but off of 7 & 8 she had me beat. During the race I was so fruestrated at myself for allowing her to pull away, but my dad informed me that it was so easy to see from the sidelines that I was out motored. I guess we have now seen the good and the bad of the TaG program. Second place is just the first loser. I'm winning at Tulsa, you can count on it!

Our next race is the TAGUSA World Championships in New Castle, Indiana. With a little help from my sponsors and some prayer we will have a chance. If some things go our way we might have a leapord to take with us and test out at New Castle. Also, we are going to be meeting a good friend Rick Crist there who will have some "local know how". I'd say our chances of winning this race will be very good. I hope so.
